We would like to begin your introduction to MY Southwest Florida, located along the shores of the Caloosahatchee River and the Gulf of Mexico.

It’s a thriving area rich in history and nature.

The area comprising Greater Fort Myers and the Beach made up of the cities of Fort Myers, Fort Myers Beach, North Fort Myers, Bonita Springs, Cape Coral, Lehigh Acres, Alva,and Labelle, and the Islands of Estero, Pine Island and Matlacha. Temperatures average 83º in the summer and 66º in the winter. The area is also home to 50 miles of wonderful sandy beaches, abundant recreational activities, and many wildlife refuges.

Within 150 miles (or less than a two hour drive), residents can reach other major gateway cities such as Sarasota, Tampa, West Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Miami and Orlando.

Bonita Springs and Estero Island, known as the Gateway to the Gulf - Is home to the beautiful beaches and islands along the Gulf of Mexico. The area is home to back bays, estuaries, and lush mangrove forests famous for kayaking and bird-watching

Fort Myers Beach is recognized as the “world’s safest family beach” because of its gentle slope into the Gulf of Mexico.

Sanibel and Captiva showcases exceptionally diverse ecosystems, pristine white beaches, along with the best shelling in North America. You can spend your days biking and hiking the acres of wildlife sanctuaries.

If you’re looking for Old Florida Style, one of the most popular areas of South Fort Myers and the City of Palms is located along the banks of the Caloosahatchee River.

Our area has several choices to further your education. Three of those schools should be mentioned: Edison Community College, Florida Gulf Coast University, and University of South Florida .

Top destination for the college bound - The main campus of Edison Community College has a museum and performing arts theatre.

Florida Gulf Coast University is a growing state university.

Extensive network of public libraries.

Florida is home to a unique historical, rural, and agricultural ambiance and within minutes of bustling downtown Fort Myers and the SR 80 east/west artery that connects to Palm Beach County.

One of the most rapily growing areas of Lee County is unincorporated Lehigh Acres. It’s an urban planning marvel integrating great parks and recreational facilities with schools and destination businesses.

In the late 1880's Thomas Edison stumbled upon the area and made it his winter home. He not only built a home and laboratory here, but also enticed his friend Henry Ford to settle next door. Thomas Edison once declared “there is only one Fort Myers and 90 million people are going to find out” about it!

One of the best kept secrets in the Fort Myers area is the City of Cape Coral. It has a multitude of marinas, golf courses and tennis and was built around the development of 400 miles of canals offering abundant waterfront living.

FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS PARADE:
The event began back in 1938 as a tribute to the life and achievements of Thomas Alva Edison. In its 69th year, the event has grown to become one of the largest annual celebrations in the State of Florida and the largest Evening Parade in the Southeast. This exceptional two-hour extravaganza of color and pageantry features some of Florida's top marching bands, floats, dance troupes and drill teams.
