Cape Coral Yacht Club

Cape Coral Yacht Club

Welcome to Cape Coral's Yacht Club neighborhood in Cape Coral, Florida

Cape Coral's Yacht Club neighborhood is a "waterfront wonderland", as described by the original developer's "that is a great place to live, work and play". This area was established in 1957 when the Rosen Brothers and Gulf American Land Corporation bought the land previously only known as the "other side of the river". They had a dream to develop wetlands and pastures into streets and canals where they would build homes and eventually create a city called Cape Coral.

The Yacht Club neighborhoods are located in the oldest part of the city which is in the Southeast corner of Cape Coral. A historic marker now sits on Driftwood Parkway which indicates that first four homes that were built in that area in 1958. This was the birth place of Cape Coral.

Due to an aggressive marketing campaign by Gulf America, the area grew very quickly even though the only access to the area was a long dusty trip down Del Prado Blvd. from Pine Island Road. By 1964, the Yacht Club neighborhoods and Cape Coral had grown enough that it was necessary to build a bridge connecting the south Fort Myers area to the Cape Coral Parkway, thus the Cape Coral Bridge was built.

Most of the homes of the area have Gulf access canals. These homes were built by Gulf American Land Corp. and the other home builders of the early days of Cape Coral such as Michigan Homes and Rustenburg Homes. However, you can quickly see that many homes have been extensively renovated over the years, and in some cases, you will find new homes dotting the area due to homeowners demolishing the older homes and rebuilding.
